The entire proposal should consist of only one file in PDF format with the following components:

1. A table of any other grants (including funds available to project supervisor) that have supported this project, are currently supporting this project or are being applied for. Also include an explicit budget and budget justification with Budget items, amount budgeted and the amount requested) on no more than one additional page. Download and include the Research Grant List and Budget form below.
2. A short descriptive title of your research proposal.
3. Your name and contact information.
4. A brief statement about how receiving this research grant would benefit you professionally.
5. A brief description of your proposed research project. Be sure to include the following sections:
   • Title of Research Project (centered)
   • Significance of the Project — Introduce the importance of your proposal and expected results.
   • Background — Describe the background of the overall research project, the problem(s) being addressed, and how your study will advance the field based on work already completed in this area.
   • Objectives — Discuss the specific objectives of your research project and briefly explain how you plan to achieve them (i.e., what questions do you plan to answer?). Discuss the overall research approach you are/will be using and the location where the research will take place.
   • Description of Work — Discuss the specific tasks to be performed using the CMS Funding. Provide details about the methods or procedures to be employed in the project. Discuss how this work relates to the objectives above and the impact if CMS funding were not available (e.g., how would you achieve your objectives in the absence of CMS funding?).
6. CV or Resume – On the page following the project description, attach a 1-page CV or resume that includes a summary of your educational and professional background, significant accomplishments, awards and a list of publications and presentations. The format of the CV is at your discretion, but it must be legible in printed form. Note the CV is in addition to the two-page limit for the proposal submission.

Items 2–5 must be limited to no more than 2 pages (either •American Quarto• ("letter") size paper (8 1/2 x 11 inches or 215.9 x 279.4 mm) or A4 (210 x 297 mm)), with font size 12, and standard 1 inch (25.4 mm or 2.5 cm) margins. The two-page limit should include all figures, tables, text, and references. Proposals that exceed the page limit will not be considered.

The entire proposal should consist of only one file in PDF format with the following components:

1. One page that includes a table itemizing your expected travel expenses:
   • Travel Details — including airfare, personal vehicle mileage ($0.25/mile), other transportation, and other expenses. If you will share travel expenses with someone else, claim only your share.
   • Lodging — show number of nights and cost per night. We expect you to share a room to reduce lodging costs. List only your share of expenses.
   • Meeting Registration Costs
   • Banquet Costs — attendance is required, but cost may be included in registration.
   • Workshop
   • Field Trip
   • Total
   • Only list actual expenses posted on the meeting website. Note rate reductions offered to students. Students may apply for both a Student Travel Grant and a Student Research Grant in the same year. Students will be informed of the results 4–6 weeks after the deadline. Any funds received but not used must be returned to CMS. Travel Grant funds will be distributed only at the CMS Banquet; therefore, attendance is required. The annual meeting registration must be paid in advance.

2. Abstracts for Oral Presentations and Posters. Each abstract may be up to 1 page long using US letter size or A4 formatting. There should be a 2.5 cm (1 inch) margin on all sides of the page. Use an 11 pt Times New Roman font for the main text. Your abstract must include:
   • Presentation Title — Times New Roman, bold type, 16 pt font, centered, capitalize first word only.
   • Author Names — first name, middle initial, last name; use superscripts (1,2,3, etc.) to match addresses.
   • Presenting Author — indicated in bold type on a line below the title.
   • Presenting Author E-mail Address — italics, 10 pt font, placed online before list of co-authors.
   • List of Contributing Authors — separated by commas, with superscripts matching addresses (if the presenting author is not the first author, repeat their name in the list).
   • Author Addresses — italics, 10 pt font, include country (use same superscript for authors at the same address).
   • Text — should include:
     • Introduction of the research problem (1 paragraph)
     • Methods (analytical or calculation conditions; 1 paragraph)
     • Results and Interpretation (supported by data; 1 or more paragraphs)
     • Conclusion (1 paragraph)
   • Figures or Tables — may be embedded in the text (best placed in a Text Box). Figure captions should be 9 pt Times New Roman font, also within the Text Box.
   • References — a short list may be placed at the bottom of the page in 9 pt Times New Roman font, referenced using numbered superscripts.
   • Figures — line diagrams and grayscale drawings must have a resolution of at least 600 dpi; photographs (halftones) at least 300 dpi. Color diagrams may be included, but in the abstract volume these will be printed in grayscale.
3. The Applicant must obtain a one page letter from his/her advisor.

Travel Award applicants must submit their abstract to the meeting organizers, as well as, the CMS Office!

A maximum request should be no more than $1,000 for intra-continental travel or $1,500 for inter-continental travel.
